Introduction

I'm Cecilia Blancas and I'm so glad you are taking interest in therapy. Finding a provider can be frustrating and energy consuming, which is why I want to tell you about myself and what therapy could be like. I truly believe therapy is an individualistic experience with the ultimate goal of building a partnership for healing and personal growth. The reasons for therapy vary, including but not limited to depression, anxiety, trauma, difficulty managing stress, life milestones, and relationships. Your time commitment to therapy should be realistic and sustainable. Often a new client might begin therapy at a weekly or biweekly pace, and gradually shift to more time in between session. Outpatient therapy models vary provider to provider. I, myself, am keen on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). I'm a super fan of the research done on shame and vulnerability by Dr Brene Brown as well as Dr Shauna Shapiro's explanation of mindfulness. I see the beautiful connection and application of Dr Kristin Neff's self-compassion practices. Currently I am most comfortable working with ages 14 and up. I am gender affirming and aim to be inclusive to all folx in the LGBTQIA+ community. I am bilingual in English as well as Spanish. I was born and raised in the Greater Milwaukee Area to Mexican immigrant parents. I attended Milwaukee Public Schools as well as the Muskego-Norway School District. I am a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee with both my bachelors and masters in social work. I completed by EMDR training in July of 2023 and anticipate being a certified EMDR provider by Jan of 2025. Over the last twelve plus years I've worked in the community as a mental health provider in an outpatient setting as well as the psychiatric hospital, a home visiting social worker, and an evidence based- comprehensive sex educator. My approach is casual with an emphasis on holding space for clients in a warm and empathetic environment. I believe in self-determination and moving from a place of congruency with one’s values. In my free time, I enjoy cooking, baking, hiking, crocheting, crafting, dancing, and being with family.
