I work with clients to address symptoms like anxiety and depression, but also to address how those symptoms developed, why they persist, and how to create lasting changes. I use a "top-down" as well as "bottom-up" approach. Top-down is "cognition/higher level brain functions" - paying attention to thoughts and emotions to gain new perspectives. Bottom-up is "body-work/lower level brain function" focusing on somatic symptoms, learning from and being more at home in our bodies. Together these approaches change how we think, feel, and experience ourselves and the world. All of this is in the context of an affirming, respectful, and connected therapeutic relationship where change becomes possible. My PhD is in Counseling Psychology and Religion, which means I can address diverse spiritual or religious issues, and explore questions of meaning and purpose, if that would be helpful to you. I have been practicing psychotherapy for over 10 years, working with diverse clients who are coping with childhood trauma, relationship issues, and folx who struggle with disordered eating and body image concerns.
