Introduction

We all have work to do and positive change can be made at any point in our lives. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) and a Registered Art Therapist (ATR) in private practice in Palm Beach County, Florida. I believe that we all have the innate capacity to learn and grow. We each have within us the power to heal old wounds, change maladaptive patterns of behavior, and create new meaning and life-affirming ways of engaging in our day-to-day lives. I SEE YOU'RE AN ART THERAPIST, WILL I HAVE TO DO ART? No.... I utilize a number of evidence based treatment modalities, as a team you and I will decide what approaches are best suited to meet your specific needs and interests. TREATMENT Treatment begins with an initial 15-minute phone call that will help me to understand your needs and how I can best assist you. If it feels like a good fit we will schedule our first session. Over the course of the first few sessions I will gather further details so that I can get the full picture regarding your areas of concern. Together we will determine your goals for therapy as well as treatment strategies to achieve those goals. Typically, clients start with weekly or bi-weekly sessions. As we progress in treatment, the time between sessions may increase. I believe that it is my job as a therapist to give you the tools to be successful outside of the therapeutic relationship. My goal is for you to find resolution of your concerns and increase joy and fulfillment in your life. Some clients "finish" therapy and return later to address new or changing concerns. If I believe that I am not suited to best serve you, I will provide you with referrals. WHY ART THERAPY? Art... that's for kids! How often do we stop engaging in things that once brought us joy simply because we felt that it didn’t hold up to some expectation we or others had of what it “should” or “should not” be? All art whether visually pleasing or not, is valuable for what is communicating and our connection to the process. Did you know that most people stop creating art around the age of 10?! Somewhere along the way we took on the idea that art had to be or look a certain way. We shame ourselves for our 'stick figures' but why? The focus of art therapy is not on the 'beauty' of the product, but rather on the learning and experiences that take place during its creation. Art therapy does not require any artistic skills in order to be successful and is appropriate for individuals of all ages and backgrounds. Please keep in mind that I will never pressure any client to 'make art' although in my opinion we all make art in our own way wether we realize it or not. Creativity is innately human. So just know... Art therapy is something in the tool chest that we can investigate if it feels right to you.
