Introduction

I'm Carla Guice, founder and director of Right Story Counseling Center. People often ask about the meaning behind our name - I believe that each person is like a book, with each page representing a unique piece of the story. The true story unfolds as we turn the pages and discover the chapters. At Right Story, we believe everyone deserves to write the story they desire to live. My vision of having my own counseling practice became a reality when Right Story Counseling Center PLLC opened its doors in December 2020. The shift to virtual counseling during the COVID-19 pandemic presented an opportunity to provide much-needed support to those facing struggles. With a commitment to serving the community, I left my full-time position as a therapist with Prairie View A&M University in August 2020. I understand firsthand the feelings of helplessness, loneliness, and uncertainty about the future. As the principal leader of PVAMU Counseling Center's Crisis Intervention Program, I focused on raising mental health awareness and reducing the risk of suicides on campus. I have also spoken on important topics such as Depression, Anxiety, and Mental Health at conferences and events. Prior to counseling, I worked as a news reporter in Buffalo, New York, and Albuquerque, New Mexico, retiring from Continental/United Airlines in 2012 after 14 years as a Global Service Manager. With a particular passion for working with diverse groups, I am especially attuned to the needs of women. My goal as a therapist is to empower individuals to lead healthy lives mentally, physically, and spiritually. Through my experience at IntraCare Hospital North, Minola's Place of Texas (a Residential Treatment Center for girls), and Teen and Family Services, I have honed my skills in helping adolescents and young adults struggling with mental illness, behavior disorders, and substance abuse issues. I hold a Masters of Education in Counseling from the University of Houston, Victoria, and a Bachelor's Degree in Broadcast Journalism from Buffalo State College. I am an active member of professional associations such as the American Counseling Association, the Texas Counseling Association, and the Houston Licensed Professional Counselors Association. I currently reside in Houston, Texas, with my husband, and we are blessed with three sons and six grandchildren. At Right Story Counseling Center, we warmly invite you to embark on a journey of self-discovery and transformation. Together, we can help you rewrite your story and find fulfillment in life.
