I love working with mothers during the perinatal period, this is the time from conception up to one year post birth. This is a significant time of change and adjustment, many emotions come to the surface during this time and it can be very beneficial for a mother to have emotional support from someone who is trained in this specifically. I also enjoy working with those that are experiencing grief. Grief is an emotional experience that also comes with much adjustment and intensity. It can be an all consuming emotion, this is also a period of time that talking with someone who understands can be very beneficial. There are times when the two worlds of perinatal and grief collide, this is a very specific subset of experiences, feelings, thoughts, triggers, risk factors and protective factors. For many, it can feel challenging to find a therapist that is skilled in working with this situation. Working with the perinatal population and the grief population equally to be very helpful in my knowledge when working with these clients and desire to improve resources for this type of loss. The theraputic relationship is one of the most important factors in determining someone's feelings about therapy. It is important for trust to be built and for someone to feel understood. I am honored to have the position I have to work with people during very difficult times in their lives.
