Introduction

Hi, I’m Dr. Ben Alpert. Over the past 20 years I have had the pleasure of helping countless children, teens, adults, families, and couples learn to understand their lives and the world around them. Life can be super hard and finding a safe space to process your thoughts is always helpful. I utilize several different theoretical orientations depending on the specific problems or issues you seek help for. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is important to help patients with Anxiety and Depression understand how their thoughts affect their moods and behaviors, Psychodynamic therapy helps patients at varying stages in their lives understand their negative repetitive patterns and Systems Therapy is especially useful with couples and families seeking treatment because sometimes we fall into roles that we want to change but don’t know how and sometimes we just need to learn how to communicate again. One of my areas of specialty is working with patients of all ages struggling with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). From small children with new diagnoses that struggle to sit in a classroom chair, to adolescents and college students struggling with academic issues and social skills, to twenty and thirty somethings struggling to get their lives in order, to parents that learn that they have ADHD only after reading the symptoms of their diagnosed kids, everyone can benefit from learning how to hone the ADHD brain and it is amazing to watch people achieve their fullest potential once they engage in treatment. Clinical Experience Children and Teens: Over the years I have had phenomenal experiences working with children and teens aged 5-17 in special needs schools, community clinics, high achieving Advanced Placement and Honors private and magnet schools and during my Post-Doctoral internship at Sovereign Health, an adolescent residential treatment center for kids diagnosed with mental health and substance abuse issues. I help kids learn to relax, build self-esteem, understand divorce, foster care, academic issues, behavioral issues, trauma, anxiety, depression and Oppositional Defiance Disorder and sometimes I meet with kids simply because being a kid is hard! Adults: In addition to working in community clinics and medical practices helping adults with Anxiety, Depression, life transitions, personal growth, stress management, substance abuse, relationship issues, parenting, Mild to Moderate Bipolar Disorder, and PTSD, I also worked at Beth Israel Hospital in New York City on their Inpatient Psych Ward and outpatient clinic, in day treatment centers, worked to find homes for the homeless, and spent 9 months working with trauma victims in Post Katrina New Orleans. I am incredibly passionate about this profession and look forward to helping you!
