LMFT Associate Ashlyn Bellamy
Specialties: Trauma, Couples Counseling, LGBTQIA+, Open Relationships/Polyamory

Introduction

My clients often feel disconnected from themselves and the important people in their lives. They often feel overwhelmed, isolated, cut off from their emotions, or believe they feel too much. Many of my clients are members of lgbtqia2s+ communities and have experienced trauma and oppression. I work with individuals, couples, and relationships where one or more partners have experienced relational trauma, such as emotional abuse, physical and emotional neglect, childhood abuse, physical abuse, or sexual abuse. I love connecting with brave people as they turn towards their inherent wisdom and resilience to create meaningful changes in themselves and their relationships. I work from an attachment orientation, which emphasizes that our primary relationships impact us and deeply matter to our health and vitality. I'm informed by interpersonal neurobiology, which backs up my belief that healing happens in safe relationships. I provide psychoeducation to my clients about the impacts of trauma and stress on themselves, their bodies, and their relationships. I use my training in emotionally focused therapy and somatic experiencing to gently guide my clients as they engage their minds, bodies, and souls (if that's their thing) to reclaim their resources, strengths, and power. I work from a systemic lens and consider the societal and familial structures that impact my clients. I view my clients as the experts of their lives and experiences. As a white able-bodied woman with socioeconomic privilege, I recognize and take seriously the vast power and privileges my identities hold. As a trauma survivor of gender-based violence and queer woman, I know the devastation of systemic oppression. I actively work to dismantle oppressive structures in and out of the therapy setting. I believe all people deserve justice and to live with dignity, safety, and freedom from oppression. I'm passionate about justice in mental healthcare, which has historically been harmful to people of color, neurodivergent folks, people with disabilities, and trauma survivors. I work from a systemic, anti-oppressive, feminist lens and speak candidly to the trauma of racism, poverty, marginalization, sexism, and ableism. I work collaboratively with clients to create a felt sense of safety in the therapeutic relationship. I believe all clients have the right to an affirming therapist with shared identities (if that feels best for them).
