Dr. Anna Berin is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology in RI and MA who sees children, teenagers, transitional age youth, and adults—either individually or as a couple—and families. She has extensive professional experience working with members of the LGBTQ community, including adolescents and adults who have been disenfranchised and/or individuals in the process of exploring their gender identity, those who are transitioning or those who have fully transitioned. She helps her clients explore where they in the world and how best to support their journey. Her other specialties include multicultural/intercultural work, anxiety, and depression (including self-harm), Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and complex trauma, as well as Phases of Life/ life transitions. Additionally, she has recently added a new speciality working with travel nurses and/or medical health professionals managing a myriad of challenges related to COVID stress and beyond. Dr. Berin believes change happens when individuals are ready to make adjustments in their lives, and she is excited to join them on their journey. She considers herself to be an integrationist, incorporating elements from a variety of treatment modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Existential Therapy, and Holistic Therapy taking into consideration the whole-person by appreciating their emotional, psychological and behavioral aspects of functioning. She understands that individuals have their own unique strengths and ways of being in the world. She utilizes what clients bring into therapy to help them clarify intention and to understand how to make actionable steps to achieve their goals. While she takes into account individual limitations, she focuses heavily on insight-oriented techniques to help challenge clients to think beyond their barriers, to understand what may be contributing or sustaining their behaviors, and how to access their resilience (and grit). When working with individuals or systems (i.e., families and couples), Dr. Berin focuses on styles of communication to help clarify points of difference and to develop strategies for navigating them. However, she does not limit herself to any particular challenge and has experience navigating various issues of conflict, non-monogamy, redefining a relationship, and trans-generational trauma, as well as adjustment issues or phase of life issues. She has extensive practice working with marginalized community members, such as those who have experienced cultural, systemic, and educational discrimination, displacement and trauma. Dr. Berin is passionate about her work and is committed to ongoing- learning to ensure she is offering evidence-based, trauma informed and culturally sensitive treatment. She does both long-term and short-term work with an ultimate goal of supporting clients through compassionate, but honest and transparent dialogue. Dr. Berin looks forward to meeting you via zoom for the foreseeable future. She mostly works out of the Blackstone, MA office, and by appointment at the East Side of Providence location.
