Dr. Angela K. Waggoner Dr. Waggoner is the founder of Safe Haven Counseling Center. She graduated from Liberty University in May of 2021 with her Ph.D. in counseling Education and Supervision. Her dissertation focused on trauma in the schools and if school counselors believed they were prepared in Texas to meet the crisis needs of students. She accepted a position at Houston Christian University as a Full-time Assistant Professor in Counseling where she has the privilege of not only working with her clients, but also training future counselors and school counselors. Dr. Waggoner has a passion for working with individuals and couples who struggle with trauma, crisis, suicidal ideation, self-harm, abuse (physical, emotional, mental, sexual, spiritual), and complex trauma. She also works with the grief, loss, depression, and anxiety that stems from these issues. She is client centered, which means she allows the client to move at an appropriate pace for the client and yet will gently push when needed. Her primary therapeutic approach is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy & EMDR as it most closely aligns with her personal beliefs. Dr. Waggoner is trained as a Precept Leader. Precept is an in-depth Bible study program. As a Christian therapist, Dr. Waggoner believes it is wise to know how to adequately include biblical truths into therapy as requested by the client. Dr. Waggoner is a Symbis Facilitator. Symbis is a great program for couples who are considering marriage and/or re-marriage. In addition to Symbis, Dr. Waggoner is trained as a Prepare & Enrich facilitator. Prepare & Enrich not only focuses on the pre-marital issues but goes into the issues that develop further into marriage.
