The most important part of therapy is finding a therapist who is the right fit for you. While my approach to counseling is flexible and based on meeting clients where they are at, it is founded in the idea that increasing vulnerability and authenticity in one’s relationships will yield positive personal growth and the alleviation of problematic symptoms, both in individual and couples therapy. Avoiding feelings can often feel necessary in the short-term yet it impacts people negatively in the long-term. Leaning into these feelings, while difficult, is necessary to work through pain and aids in the understanding and breaking if unhealthy patterns both intra and interpersonally. At the foundation of my work, I believe in the power of human connection to heal painful past experiences. I also think that the negative ways that people think about themselves is reflective of the many external messages received over time. I aim to empower clients to rewrite their own stories and claim back power in their lives. In both individual and couples therapy I attempt to foster increased connection and connection to emotions. Additionally, I incorporate mindfulness and value-congruence in my work to increase the ability to appreciate the present moment and one’s relationships. I prioritize equity and inclusion in my work, routinely attend to issues of power, privilege, oppression, and promise that your salient identities will be affirmed. The therapy process varies from person to person and I promise that, no matter the journey that is taken, you will not be alone.
