In 2006, Amy began working in social services in Chicago in a variety of settings primarily with homeless, street-based, and at-risk young people. She spent several years with a national youth hotline training crisis counselors in solution focused crisis intervention, motivational interviewing, harm reduction, trauma-informed care, and positive youth development. Amy worked in case management and street outreach for a transitional living program and provided supportive services at an emergency youth shelter. She conducted risk-reductive sexual health counseling session at queer health center and provided HIV/STI testing and result dissemination. In 2015, Amy decided to slow her life down and moved from Chicago to Taos. Upon arriving to the small community, she developed and implemented an intensive therapeutic program for students in an alternative learning environment. Amy developed a Sexual Education curriculum and continues to teach it today to 7th & 8th graders at a local charter school. She also worked at a domestic violence and sexual assault center, providing individual therapy services to children and adults affected by domestic violence and sexual assault. After so many years of living all stacked up on top of one another and lined up next to one another, Amy lives out and away from the hustle and bustle with her partner and their two dogs on a property of their own. She enjoys the practice and process of homesteading - building, growing, canning, and nurturing herself and those around her.
