Dr. Amarilys Galloza Carrero, a native of Puerto Rico, is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist in the states of Virginia and Maryland, with a deep-rooted commitment to helping individuals realize their inherent potential for growth and change. She obtained her bachelos degree in psychology from the University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras Campus, graduating Magna Cum Laude and receiving the award of Undergraduate Psychology Student of the Year from the Puerto Rican Psychological Association. She began with graduate studies in Clinical Psychology at the University of Puerto Rico, where she devoted two years to researching depression in Puerto Rican pre-adolescents and adolescents. Her interest to improving mental health outcomes led her to initiate research within the D/deaf Puerto Rican community, although limited resources posed significant challenges. Dr. Galloza Carrero pursued her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at Gallaudet University, the worlds premier institution specializing in D/deaf individuals. Her exceptional contributions were recognized with the Florence R. Foerderer Fellowship and the Weiner Family Research Award, highlighting her groundbreaking work in enhancing the mental health of the D/deaf population. In addition to her Ph.D., she earned a minor in child development, emphasizing her comprehensive approach to psychology. Today, Dr. Galloza Carrero serves as an adjunct professor for the Clinical Psychology Ph.D. program at Gallaudet University and conducts forensic substance use evaluation at the Alexandria Family and Relationship Courts Court Service Unit. Her expertise also extends to the realm of Latino Psychology, where she has served as a cultural consultant, conducting psychological and neuropsychological assessments, parental capacity evaluations, evaluations for immigrations purposes and parent-child assessments. At the heart of Dr. Galloza Carrero's clinical philosophy lies a profound belief in the innate potential within each individual. She tirelessly advocates that every person possesses untapped capabilities, awaiting discovery with the right tools, support, and creative approaches.
