Introduction

My name is Amanda Phillips, and I am an LICSW in the states of Alabama and Iowa with over 20 years of practice in the social work field. I strive to meet clients where they are, providing support and empowerment as they navigate ways to cope with both current and past traumas. My approach emphasizes walking alongside clients on their journey, helping them discover paths to healing while acknowledging that, although the past cannot be changed, growth and resilience are possible. My approach to therapy is rooted in trauma-informed care and a client-centered perspective. I prioritize creating a safe and supportive environment where clients feel heard, respected, and empowered. By recognizing the impact of trauma on a person’s emotions, behaviors, and overall well-being, I tailor my approach to meet each client’s unique needs and experiences. I work collaboratively with clients, honoring their autonomy and strengths, and focus on building trust as the foundation of the therapeutic relationship. My goal is to guide clients in their healing journey, fostering resilience and self-discovery while promoting strategies that support their long-term growth and well-being. I have a strong background in working with Veterans, Veteran partners, traumatic brain injury (TBI), military sexual trauma (MST), Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Intimate Partner Violence (IPV), trauma, stress, depression, anxiety, adjustment disorders, addiction, and couples therapy. Our first session will be building rapport and gathering information. I want to find out about you and what brought you to therapy - what you hope to find through therapy so you don't feel therapy is needed anymore. I want to learn about your communication styles, and what works for you and what doesn't. I want to meet you where you are and build from that session as we work together on your goals.
