I currently hold a counseling license in the state of NJ, have a specialty degree in education and am completing my dissertation to obtain a Ph.D in Psychology, specializing in Development. I have a passion for teaching both individual clients and couples how to ride the waves in life and re-gain control. The therapy modalities I use are DBT, Psychodynamics, and ACT. In short these therapies teach you to understand why and where your life difficulties come from, how to identify and take control of your emotions, and how to accept what is beyond your control. Understanding why and where your difficulties come from is not an excuse to blame others, but rather is an explanation for why you are where you are and why you feel how you feel. Learning to identify your emotions is foundational......are you truly angry or are you hurt, but only know how to express anger? Learning to control your emotions allows you to get back in the drivers seat, instead of your emotions telling you what you will feel, when you will feel it, and how you will engage with others. If you have ever said, "I only yelled at you because you had an attitude with me," your emotions are controlling you. What could your life look like if you were back in the control seat? Life will not always be the way we wish it was, but it is important to learn to accept the things you cannot change. Accepting what you can and cannot change is no the same thing as accepting a negative behavior or action as ok. Acceptance is the surfboard in which you will learn to ride lifes waves. In therapy we will explore your early life and relationships in great detail. This can be uncomfortable for many clients, but it is an important area in which we are better able to identify where in your development something changed and began creating life long difficulties. I can't ride the waves for you, but I can provide you with the support you need until you are able to. I hope you choose to allow me to join you on your journey and I look forward to seeing you soon.
