Alice Payne Heath is a Licensed Professional Counselor-Supervisor and a Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor with over 28 years of experience working in a variety of settings with children, teens, and their families. She specializes in children, as young as 3, teens, parents, and young adults to address a variety of emotional and behavioral issues such as anxiety, anger management issues, attention and impulsivity issues, depression, parent-child relational issues, attachment issues, grief, and trauma, along with other presenting challenges. Alice seeks to integrate responsible psychological principles, and as a professional, she aims to be multiculturally sensitive and ethically responsible. Her theoretical approach is eclectic, utilizing a Child/Person Centered approach, cognitive-behavioral, solution-focused and prescriptive therapy. Along with using evidence-based therapeutic approaches, Alice introduces creative ways to engage the sensory system to explore and express thoughts and feelings through innovative, individualized interventions that use mediums such as sand tray, play therapy, art, writing, and mindfulness. Alice believes that every individual has the inherent strengths and internal resources to confront life's challenges and find healing. No two persons are the same; therefore, individualized treatment plans are created that specifically address the individual’s needs and style of communication, with the goal of assisting the clients she works with in achieving their whole potential and emotional well-being. Alice partners with individuals and their families to create goal-oriented therapy treatment. Creating a safe and supportive environment for each individual is a primary commitment. Alice attended Houston Baptist University and has a Master of Art in Psychology. She is trained in Play Therapy, Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), and Parent-Child Interactive Therapy (PCIT). Alice is also a supervisor for those pursuing their LPC and/or Registration of Play Therapy. She has developed a curriculum and taught two play therapy courses to assist those wanting to obtain their Registration of Play Therapy. Alice is a member of the Sam Houston Association of Play Therapy, the Texas Association of Play Therapy and the Association of Play Therapy. Alice is a native Houstonian. She enjoys spending time with family, watching or reading mysteries, playing games, painting, playing with her dog and guinea pigs, and learning to speak Swedish.
