In addition to my private practice, I'm a psychologist at the University of California, San Francisco in the School of Medicine for the Medical Student Well-Being Program. Education and Training: I earned my bachelor's degree in psychology and my PhD in clinical psychology at the University of California, Berkeley. I completed my predoctoral internship and postdoctoral fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco in the Psychiatry and Neurology departments. My research has focused on how the brain supports emotions and empathy, as well as how the emotional lives of caregivers impact their mental health. I have been providing clinical care since 2016, with specialized training in personalized treatment for adults with anxiety, mood, trauma, insomnia, and multiple co-occurring health concerns. Clients: I work with young, middle aged, and older adults in individual therapy via telehealth. Because of state licensure regulations, I work with California residents. My clients experience a variety of concerns, including anxiety, perfectionism, burnout, life transitions, depression, grief, insomnia, and trauma. One of my specialties is working with adults adjusting to recent cognitive changes (e.g., COVID brain fog, mild cognitive impairment) and family members of loved ones with a progressive neurological disorder (e.g., dementia). Amidst life's toughest moments, finding clarity, connection, and joy is still possible. Approach: I am affirming of all identities and their intersections (e.g., living at the intersections of being BIPOC, LGBQTIA+, living with disability, etc). As a 1.5 generation Chinese American woman, I hold insight into the experiences of immigrants and the kinds of expectations that are common for many in the Asian American diaspora. I also have extensive work experience at academic and medical centers, and I am aware of the demands many graduate students, medical students, and healthcare workers face. I apply these insights in my work as a therapist, and I'll work with you to build upon your inner strengths and efforts to heal. I adapt evidence-based techniques to meet you where you are. In other words, I integrate a culturally responsive approach to recognize your authentic self, address the impacts of oppressive systems, and work with you to implement helpful coping skills. We will work together to reflect on what matters most to you and build a life that you want. I will meet you where you are, so that you can live your life with clarity, intentionality, and authenticity.
