Hey there! I’m Alexis Smith, an LPCC from San Diego who’s passionate about supporting BIPOC adults within the LGBTQ+ community. As an openly queer therapist, I’m excited to support you within an affirming space to recognize, explore and accept your own queer identity and navigate the myriad of challenges that come along with queerness and being a POC. When we work together, you can expect my approach to be rooted in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, to incorporate lots of humor, encourage you to express your feelings in the present moment, involve aspects of astrology, exploration of your attachment and inner child wounds and to be tailored to meet your specific needs. I communicate with a human-forward approach (cussing, AAVE, millennial vibes, pop culture lingo, etc.). I’ll be sure to balance validating you while lovingly holding you accountable. There’s no right or wrong way for you show up to our sessions, whether you’ve got your bonnet on, pjs, wrapped in a blanket or munching a snack, I just want you to feel comfy. Through close, collaborative focus, I’ll support you to explore past experiences, the root of self-limiting beliefs, your relationships and present moment needs in order to deepen your self-compassion, ability to regulate and reach better alignment. I’ll also connect you with different resources and professionals that deepen the work that we’ll do. I graduated from CSUN with a masters degree in Counseling (specialization in College Counseling & Student Services) and completed the Professional Clinical Counseling program. My professional background spans across agency, private practice and higher education settings. Through the years I’ve enjoyed having the privilege of creating more BIPOC representation in the field and providing direct mentorship to young clinicians just breaking into the world of mental health. Still have questions? Please contact me directly! If you’re ready to dive in, learn more about yourself and get support to get unstuck, book a free 15-minute consultation!
