Hi there! I’m Dr. Alex Tanner. I’m a licensed clinical psychologist (PSY34509) based in Los Angeles, California. I received my B.A. in Psychological and Brain Sciences from Dartmouth College, where I participated on and captained the women’s NCAA Division I track and field team. I earned my M.A. and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). I offer science-backed mental health care for adults and couples, with expertise in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and mindfulness-based therapies. While I am experienced in working with a broad range of mental health concerns, my practice primarily specializes in the treatment of anxiety disorders, OCD, postpartum depression & anxiety, sports performance, recovery from persistent post-concussive symptoms & sports injury, difficulty with emotion regulation, relationship distress, and life stress & transitions. I support my clients in moving towards more meaningful and fulfilling lives by helping them to clarify their values, leverage their strengths, increase understanding of factors that contribute to and maintain their distress, build skills to change what they can control, and cultivate acceptance of what they cannot control. I strive to create an inviting and nonjudgmental space where my clients can explore longstanding patterns, approach uncomfortable feelings, build flexible thinking, and try new behaviors in service of reaching their goals and living a values-aligned life. In addition to seeing clients in my private practice, I am clinical psychologist within the UCLA Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior in the Steve Tisch BrainSPORT program, providing clinical services and collaborating on research on post-concussion recovery.
