Alanna is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Registered Art Therapist (ATR), and Certified Perinatal Mental Health Therapist (PMH-C). As an Independent Contractor at Sage House Therapy, she specializes in the treatment of perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, eating disorders, and the treatment of trauma. Alanna uses a person-centered, trauma-informed, and somatically integrative approach to art therapy and counseling. She incorporates EMDR alongside the use of metaphor, psychodynamic theories, and mind-body connection to deepen therapeutic work while honoring the therapeutic relationship as a foundation to healing. Alanna completed her PMH-C certification through Postpartum Support International and has completed advanced trainings in Birth Trauma and Body Image during the perinatal period. As a mother herself, Alanna understands the immense challenges surrounding the journey from conception to birth and to parenting. Alanna strives to support clients in developing an understanding of themselves, the situation, and their children while developing new coping strategies and supports. Alanna has also completed advanced trainings in eating disorders focused on embodied/somatic interventions, exposure, body image, and art therapy in eating disorder treatment. Prior to joining the Sage House team, Alanna worked as a Clinical Program Director for a local residential eating disorder treatment center. When working with eating disorders, Alanna works collaboratively with client’s dietitian and medical providers to ensure her clients have the support, structure, and understanding they need to sustain the work done in therapy. Alanna received her BA in Studio Art from The University of Mary Washington and her M.A in Art Therapy and Mental Health Counseling from The George Washington University. Following graduation, Alanna worked in a variety of acute care and outpatient settings in the treatment of eating disorders, crisis psychiatric care, trauma, mood disorders, and anxiety disorders.
