Welcome. My name is Erin Slattery, and I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of California with over 15 years experience in the field. I have worked in many different settings in a variety of roles including therapist/counselor, case manager and medical social worker, with individuals (adults/seniors, children/teens) and families of all ages from a variety of diverse backgrounds. I have assisted my patients during some of the most difficult moments of their lives helping them through the turmoil of intense stressors. I believe my unique set of varied experiences, especially the comprehensive medical based background, sets me apart in the therapeutic community, especially with the aging population (middle to aged). I have an enhanced awareness and appreciation for the role of acute and chronic illnesses in the lives of my patients and I understand the complex nature of the mind-body connection. I would describe my approach as goal oriented, empathetic, motivating, warm/kind and client centered. My approaches to therapy are more hands-on, practical approaches to problem-solving. You are positioned as the expert in your life and me as the supportive helper who can provide useful tools for coping and change. The goals of therapy are ultimately unique to you and your situation, and we will identify these goals as we work together to improve the quality of your life. Some of the ways we can overcome certain turmoil in our lives, is to change our patterns of thinking or behavior regarding difficult situations, which will ultimately change the way we feel and how we respond to these situations, both internally and externally. I am a strong believer that small successful changes will equal larger significant changes in our lives over time. I also understand that sometimes to accomplish these changes we need a little help, in the form of encouragement, identification and problem solving of obstacles that stand in our way. Seeking help can be a courageous decision to make and a vulnerable step to take as you strive for a happier and more fulfilling life.
