Welcome. My name is Erin Slattery, and I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of California with 19 years of experience in the field. I have worked in many different settings in a variety of roles including therapist (psychotherapist), case manager and medical social worker. Populations I've worked with include: individuals (adults-young/middle aged/seniors, children/teens), couples and families of all ages from a variety of diverse backgrounds. I have assisted my patients during some of the most difficult moments of their lives, helping them through the turmoil of intense stressors. I believe my unique set of varied experiences, especially my comprehensive medical based background, sets me apart in the therapeutic community. I have an enhanced awareness and appreciation for the role of acute and chronic illnesses in the lives of my patients and I understand the complex nature of the mind-body connection. I would describe my therapeutic style as goal oriented, empathetic, motivating, warm/kind and client centered. My approaches to therapy are collaborative. You are positioned as the expert in your life and I as the supportive helper who can provide useful tools for coping and change. The goals of therapy are ultimately unique to you and your situation, and we will identify these goals as we work together to improve the quality of your life. Goals of therapy include, overcoming certain turmoil in our lives, include changing our patterns of thoughts or behaviors regarding those difficult situations. By making these shifts in our automatic thoughts or behaviors, we can ultimately change the way we feel and how we respond to these types of situations, and learn healthier ways to cope when life gets hard. I am a strong believer that small successful changes will equal larger significant changes in our lives over time. I also understand that sometimes to accomplish these changes we need a little help including encouragement, identification and problem solving of obstacles that stand in our way. Seeking help can be a courageous decision to make and a vulnerable step to take as you strive for a happier and more fulfilling life. If you are ready to take that first step, I am here to support and empower you. I look forward to working with you and being a part of your healing journey!
