How can you tell if someone is lonely?

Loneliness can be hard to detect in others, but if you notice any of the following symptoms in a friend or loved one, it may be worth checking in to make sure they’re ok:

  • Lowered energy levels

  • Decreased appetite

  • Consistent sickness or body aches

  • Increased substance use

  • Increased insecurity or self-doubt

  • Increased spending

If you’re worried someone you care about is feeling lonely, reach out to them and remind them you’re there. Show them some extra love, so they know they’re cared for.

You can also suggest that they might benefit from talking with a therapist or counselor.
