Introduction

My name is Laurin and I work with children, teens, and adults. As a therapist, I believe families are a system and my support is not only for your child, but your family. I want to work side by side with you and your family to help strengthen support systems and healthy communication. I graduated from Mount Mary University with a Masters of Science in Art Therapy. I am currently a licensed professional counselor in training and am a registered Art therapist in the state of Wisconsin. I come from a trauma informed background and have experience working with issues such as anxiety, depression, ADHD, and Dementia. I strive to incorporate a number of approaches, such as strengths based and person centered, to meet clients where they are at and create a therapeutic relationship that feels safe and open. I offer art therapy approaches in addition to traditional counseling approaches to help clients find alternative methods of expression and ways to communicate/explore thoughts and feelings. Art therapy can be a wonderful option for clients when words do not come as easily or when it is hard to find the language to express a memory, idea, or feeling. It is important to me that my clients know Art therapy does not focus on the appearance of the image or piece, but rather the process of creating art, the language it can give, and the feelings it can bring forth. I believe it is important to empower clients to feel in control of their therapy experience and for me as the therapist to walk alongside clients in their journey, rather than lead. I have a strong passion for being a therapist and being witness to my clients’ strength and growth as they take brave steps to becoming more intune with themselves and their emotions. If you feel that I could be the right fit for you or your child, please call me at (414) 291-9487 or feel free to email me at laurin@newprospectscounseling.com
