Introduction

Central to Mara's therapeutic approach is the belief that the counseling process is a collaborative alliance, with clients considered experts in their own lives. Within this framework, clients can access their inner strengths to promote positive change. Mara employs various therapeutic modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Psycho-Educational Therapy, Client-Centered Therapy, and Solution-Focused Therapy. Nationally Certified in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and in Grief Counseling Treatment and Intervention to Support Health Grieving and Adaptation to Death and Loss, Mara possesses a unique perspective that enriches her work with clients facing past and current trauma. Specializing in a diverse range of mental health concerns, Mara focuses on helping clients navigate and overcome challenges related to depression, anxiety, addiction, grief/loss, trauma, and personality disorders. Her approach is holistic, focusing not only on the immediate symptoms but also the underlying issues that contribute to clients' struggles. Mara is particularly adept at guiding adolescents, adults, and the elderly with major life transitions, recognizing the impact these changes can have on mental well-being. A cornerstone of Mara's therapeutic philosophy is her commitment to practicing with positive unconditional regard. She prioritizes creating a safe and nonjudgmental space where clients can explore their thoughts, emotions, and experiences freely. By fostering an environment of acceptance and understanding, Mara encourages individuals to open up and engage in the therapeutic process with trust and confidence. As a client-centered therapist, Mara will not actively direct the conversation in sessions, or judge or interpret what you say. She might restate your words in efforts to fully understand your thoughts and feelings (and help you do the same). As articulated by Carl Rogers: "People are just as sunsets if you let them be. When I look at a sunset, I don't find myself saying, 'Soften the orange a bit on the right-hand corner.' I don't try to control a sunset. I watch with awe as it unfolds." Mara is happy to meet with you for a free consultation and make sure you find the right fit!
