More about EMDR: Stressful and traumatic life events sometimes become “stuck” or “trapped” in the body and may show up unexpectedly as disturbing thoughts, images, emotions, and physical sensations; EMDR helps loosen the stronghold of distressing memories and let go of the impact of the trauma on the mind and body. Dr. Jones has been fully trained to provide EMDR, through the EMDR International Association (EMDRIA). EMDR is an evidence-based therapy for the treatment of trauma and other stressful life events; EMDR has a myriad of empirically-supported research and is backed by the American Psychological Association as an effective treatment for trauma. EMDR is an eight-phase process: thorough history-taking, preparation/orientation, assessing target memories, desensitization including bilateral stimulation, installation, body scan, closure, and reevaluation. EMDR helps the individual target specific memories and negative beliefs about the self; it allows for reprocessing without having to discuss details about the trauma.
