Harvey Cottrell is an accomplished social worker licensed in the States of New Jersey and New York. He received a Bachelor’s Degree and Masters Degree from Monmouth University in Clinical Social Work with Children and Families. Additional studies include a post-graduate certificate in Adolescent Advocacy and a Master’s Degree in Child Advocacy and Policy from Montclair State University. Harvey, has advanced training in child welfare policy, child development and child abuse prevention through a consortium of universities partnered with the NJ Department of Children and Families. Harvey formerly worked in the New Jersey Division of Child Protection and Permanency and has expert experience working with families in crisis as well as complex custody cases. In 2019 Legal Services of New Jersey awarded Harvey the Hero Award in recognition of his, “extraordinary passion, dedication, and effort in helping to make families whole again. Currently Harvey is working on a Phd in Integrative Social Work at Saybrook University in the College of Integrative Medicine and Science. Harvey focuses on functional and holistic social work. Harvey is the Clinical Director and Psychotherapist at the Center for Functional Psychotherapy and Clinical Nutrition in Monmouth County NJ. Harvey practices social work using creative technique and embracing the human capacity for holding and speaking stories. Harvey utilizes narrative therapy, existential theory and humanistic theory as the basis for therapeutic approach seeking the integration of spirit, mind and body. Harvey has worked on numerous projects that advance social justice and human rights working with vulnerable and marginalized populations. He was the 2019 Monmouth University School of Social Work recipient of the Human Rights and Social Justice Award. Harvey specializes in LGBTQIA+ advocacy.
