Introduction

[Camille Ellingsen is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapist, Psychedelic Therapist, Psychedelic Researcher, and a Clinical Rater] -- Ketamine-Assisted Therapy -- I provide ketamine-assisted therapy at Kadima Neuropsychiatry Institute in La Jolla, CA where I do preparation and integration sessions for the experiential ketamine sessions. I am trained by the leading experts at Polaris Insight Center located in San Francisco to provide ketamine-assisted psychotherapy. I earned my bachelors degree at Cal Poly in 2011 and earned my Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy in 2014 at Lipscomb University in Nashville, TN. I am a licensed therapist in both California and Tennessee. While working in California, Tennessee, England, and Germany, I have worked with addiction, trauma, depression, anxiety, multicultural, military families, teenagers, and adults. I have been tenaciously researching and studying psychedelic medicine since 2016 and continue to expand my knowledge in this emerging field. I deeply believe in this work and that this is the future of our mental health field to help people move through their depression, anxiety, and other mental health issues. Ketamine is considered a breakthrough treatment for depression, PTSD, and some other neuropsychiatric conditions. Please visit Kadimanp.com to learn more about this treatment and feel free to ask me any questions you may have. <><><> Camille is trained in: -Ketamine-Assisted Therapy through Polaris Insight Center -MDMA-Assisted Therapy through MAPS -Psilocybin-Assisted Therapy through Compass Pathways -5-Meo-DMT-Assisted Therapy through Beckley Foundation <><><> Psychedelic clinical trials that Camille is currently working on: -Clinical research trial to study 5-MeO-DMT for treatment-resistant depression sponsored by Beckley Foundation -Clinical research trial to study psilocybin for treatment-resistant depression sponsored by Compass -LSD clinical research trial for Generalized Anxiety Disorder sponsored by MindMed -I am a Clinical Rater for various other clinical research trials held at Kadima Neuropsychiatry Institute. My specialties are working with teenagers, young adults, and military personnel who are experiencing anxiety, depression, inner conflict, low self-esteem, addiction, and/or relational issues. Together we focus on the areas in your life that feel unbalanced or are not working well so that you can live life with more self-awareness, clarity, creativity, curiosity, and confidence. The goal is to better manage work and school stress, improve relationships, and find relief from anxiety and depression in a therapeutic environment that is warm and supportive. I integrate mindfulness into my therapy practice through somatic therapy modalities including Somatic Experiencing and Internal Family Systems (IFS), as well as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, DBT, and System Theories. I utilize a compassionate and humanistic lens with therapy as I believe it is powerful to understand the feelings, emotions, and behaviors a person is experiencing through a place of warmth and openness. <><><> Rwanda Ketamine Project Dr. David Feifel and Kadima Neuropsychiatry Institute was approached with high enthusiasm to bring ketamine treatment to the continent of Africa for the first time, specifically in Rwanda. Through Kadima Neuropsychiatry Institute, I created a Ketamine-Assisted Therapy training program with Dr. Mia Sarno to train Rwandan psychologists and therapists. The in-depth therapy portion of the training was implemented over a two day period at Kadima in October 2023. The efforts of supporting the Rwandans of bringing this breakthrough modality to their country continues through supervision. <><><> << What is a preparation session? >> The preparation session is 50 minutes in duration, either in-person or virtually, and it occurs before you begin your ketamine treatments. The preparation session is a vital step in the process in order to help you understand what to expect during your ketamine treatments, how to optimize the treatment, your goals for treatment, and to answer any questions you may have. The purpose is to orient you to this type of treatment as it is very different from our current mental health treatment model. << What is an integration session? >> Integration means weaving the insights received from your journey back into your sense of self and applying them to your life. Ketamine experiences have the potential to open up very significant ways of being, ways of viewing others, and how you view yourself. It may bring to light new goals you have, things you want to do, say, or move towards. Once you have these experiences, integration is the process that turns your intent into reality. It makes your insights tangible. Bathje, Majeski, and Kudowor (2022) defined integration as 'a process in which a person revisits and actively engages in making sense of, working through, translating, and processing the content of their psychedelic experience. Through intentional effort and supportive practices, this process allows one to gradually capture and incorporate the emergent lessons and insights into their lives, thus moving toward greater balance and wholeness, both internally (mind, body, and spirit) and externally (lifestyle, social relations, and the natural world).' During this period, the therapist helps you find words for your experiences, unpack insights, and develop new personal narratives. Together we further discuss strategies and practices to retain and actualize this new knowledge. As each person’s psychedelic experience can be radically different, so too will their integration process be radically different. Feel free to read these two articles about integration: 1.
